Walkthrough Checklist

  •  Are lighting levels higher than the recommended levels?
  •  Is the exterior lighting on during the day?
  •  Are incandescent lights installed?
  •  Are standard fluorescent lamps installed?
  •  Are magnetic ballasts installed on the existing fluorescent lights?
  •  Are Mercury Vapor lights installed?

Assessment Tools and Data Collection

General Information

In order to assess the performance of lighting systems some general information must be collected.  This information will help organize the collected data in a clear concise manner.

  • Location

    • Use a site map to accurately map the location of all lights.
  • Fixture Type
  • Lamp Type
    • Incandescent
    • Fluorescent
    • Mercury Vapor
    • Metal Halide
    • High Pressure Sodium
    • Low Pressure Sodium
  • Ballast Type
  • Lamp Wattage
    • Check stock rooms for replacement lamps in storage to easily identify type and wattage.
Operational Characteristics

 The following information should be measured on site using a light meter.

  • Lighting Level (Lumens)
    • Record for each individual room.
  • Operational Hours (OH) - The operating hours of that section of the facility.
  • Use Factor (UF) - The percentage of the local operating hours the motor is operating.
Additional Information Any additional information or notes available that don't fit into a previously mentioned section should also be collected.
